Our society faces some dramatic choices over the coming decades as we seek to mitigate climate change while still improving the human condition. These choices involve complex tradeoffs both large in scale and uncertain in nature. Economics provides us the tools to deal with this complexity.

My experience and interests combine in transport and urban economics, exploring the interaction between the choices we make in infrastructure investment and the impact on our urban lives. The challenges facing urban environments are common to all cities in the world, New Zealand being no exception.

Given the long-life nature of infrastructure, many of the challenges we face today are the result of decisions made decades ago. Likewise, our decisions today will set the scene for the coming decades. Making the right choices is critical.

My past work in an engineering consulting firm has included stints on some of the largest infrastructure projects in New Zealand and brought me up close and personal with the practicalities of getting things done in a big way.

Beyond infrastructure, I am interested in applying economic frameworks to business and policy challenges across the spectrum. In my spare time I am a bookworm and dabble in foreign policy and strategic studies.
